Ideal Research paper for Journal/Conferences ll be in the form of......

Writing a good research paper that get acceptance in top tire journals like IEEE Transaction, Elsevier, ACM and Springer publication is a difficult task. As these journals follow a strict blind review process and need a clear and significant contribution and a research flavor.

Most of the students usually do a great work during their B.Tech, M.Tech or MCA projects but due to lack of understanding and guidance of writing a good research paper make their efforts go unrecognized. This post gives a list of basic ingredients and basic structure for a good research paper in Engineering. This structure can also benefit in writing research papers in science and management too.

There are six basic elements of a research paper. They are, Abstract, Overview and Problem statement, Literature survey, Proposed Method, Experimental data analysis and results, Conclusion and References. A good research paper is a combination of these sections, where every section is written as best as it should be....

Abstract: it gives concise information about the paper. Usually it consist of six to seven short sentences and of 150~200 words. A good Abstract includes a statement about problem, proposed solution, and a statement about the datasets and results. A final statement that addresses the contribution of the paper to the relevant field of research. Make this very simple precise and understandable, as readers will decided to read complete paper or not after reading Abstract.

Overview and Problem Statement: This section consists of several paragraphs. This section addresses the problem domain (field or area), its importance and applications. Solving an important problem with good application will usually lead to a good paper. The best practice is to make this section simple clear and easy to understand. If possible try to add references each statement addressing the importance and application.

Literature survey: This section contains information about the existing methods available to solve the same problem or related problems. A good literature survey usually contains a comprehensive and exhaustive list of methods used in past, their advantages and disadvantages and their applications. If possible identify a research gap from the previous research articles...

Proposed Method: This section and results are heart of the paper. Every minute detail about the proposed method need be explained in this section. It is better to write this section considering that you are writing it for a person who doesn’t know anything about the field and you need to explain him the solution.

Experimental data analysis and results: This section contains information about experimental data generation or collection and its properties. Application of data to proposed and other existing methods and a deep analysis of result and their validation make this as an ideal section.

Conclusions: A good conclusion to the paper usually contain two to three paragraphs mentioning the superior properties of the proposed solution compared to existing methods and state its significance in the field with useful applications.

References: these research papers published in journals or conferences and relevant to the research work being written for the publications. Make sure that the format given by the journal is followed for all references and all of them are cited in the paper.

LiFe is a journey, not a destination!!!



Well I am not a philosopher & not a priest & not a writer, & millions of people have already written too much on life so there's no point adding a drop of water to the ocean...but would just like to write a few lines that I have experienced in life.

For me this age is too short a span for experience, in fact it's just the beginning of my journey in the real world. There is too much to come in life. I have to cross the ocean & I am just at the shore as of now. However there is this 1 thing I have learned ( till now). No matter how difficult a situation is or no matter how worst of the situations we are in; at the end, we overcome it triumphantly.

I heard this somewhere - ' Good times give us a lot of happiness, but there is this one bad thing about good times, it ends. Similarly, bad times give us a lot of pains but one good thing about the bad times is that even it ends.' This is so true. All we need to have is a little patience, confidence, hope, courage, strength & the most important thing 'FAITH'.

'Have Faith in your Faith'----> One of the best lines I have ever come across. If you believe you can do something or you can't do something; in either case you are right.

God has already planned our life & HE has already written a beautiful future for us, all we need to do is, Trust him today. I know I have miles to go but till now even I have been in situations which seemed so impossible that I thought life would never be the same again. But after every dark night there's a beautiful morning. And same was the case with me.

In fact there is no such thing as problems in our life. It's our view about the situation that is the problem. Some people just keep cribbing through out life- Exam tensions, getting a job tension, tensions at job, Family problems, friends & love problems & what not. And in this process we lose the joys of life. Why not look at the brighter side of it??? It might be easier said than done, but we need to do that.

I was jobless for morethan a year after my engineering. Many of my friends were also in the same state & every time we used to meet they used to keep crying for job & all. However I just had 1 thing in mind, when the right time comes, I will get one. I enjoyed that year by doing all things I love. I had faith that I would. Eventually I got one after many tries.

Problems of life are like a snake crossing our legs. If one gets worried, impatient & try to fiddle with it, it might bite us; but if we just stand still & let it pass by, it will cross without harming.

So the bottom line is that life might "APPEAR" difficult ( coz life is not difficult, it just appears to be), we need to face each phase of it with a smile.

There is no security TO life. Then where is the question of security IN life. The need for security keeps you transfixed in life. Then where is question of transcendence. Our comfort zones become our prison, within which our potential remains locked up. Imagine a banyan tree growing inside a pot - only a bonsai is possible. It may be artistic, but it doesn't serve the purpose for which it was born. There is security in remaining a seed whereas a plant is always vulnerable. But then, what is the purpose of the seed? It contains a thousand forests within. It is only in its transcendence into a plant the possibilities of a forest exist. If you do not dare to give up certainty for uncertainty, you will not move ahead. Growth is in giving up what you are to become what you can be. It is astonishing as to how the world makes way for a resolute soul! It is amazing how obstacles move out of the path of a man who chooses to transcend, than to remain transfixed. Throw yourself into the unknown. Make a rebellious move. Take a daring plunge. Many great ideas have been lost because the people who had them could not stand being laughed at. Sow the Goals in the Field of Hope!!!!

“What is the thing which is continuously driving you in your life?” I would say HOPE. To achieve any goal or to become successful in life, one needs to have the motivation. The word motivation itself has got the meaning within it. ‘MOTIVE’ means aim or goal. Hence motivation happens only when one is driven towards a motive. The motive or the goal combined with hope ignites the fire within you.

There are some people who have goals but no hope; means they cannot see themselves achieving those goals. There are few others, who have high hopes about the life but no clear goals. Even during my School days, what made me to move ahead was some kind of hope in my life. During my higher secondary school days my teachers and friends used to ask me what I would want to become, for which I never had any answers. I never had any goals. But still I was very sure that I would become something in life. This was a hope. I used to dream myself to achieve something high in my career.... In my dreams I had become a doctor, pilot etc etc etc. I knew that one day I would become someone! A great hope, which kept me dreaming all the time. But there were no goals. Even there was no one to give me proper guidance during those days.Finally I got admission for my engineering graduation. Those period made me learned lot and set a goal to achieve in the career...............

Yes, I could achieve it only because I had a goal. But what gave me the confidence to set such a goal was the hope I was having in my life. The hope that there was something big and great in store for me.

One needs to sow the seeds of GOALS in the field of HOPE to harvest the desired results. Ultimately if destination is clear then path can be found out. Most of the people among us has no clear destination. Hope and idea are the main fertilizers to grow a better dream and reap the success.

Tips to Beat Stress at Work!!!

Often we come across people who complain that their work is full of stress. Am sure anyone who works and who has work to do, will have stress and would have come across a situation that is stressing. Do not worry or panic if you have stress, that is absolutely a NORMAL thing. Why stress is a normal thing?

              - It is an indicator that the particular work is vital at that point of time
              - It gives an extra boost to do the job quickly
          - Sometimes, stress does help you arrive at faster and smarter decisions, based on your past experiences.
              - Stress is one factor that reminds you that you are at work.

 How positive stress can be!! Eustress can do a lot of good to you..... But if utilized in a wrong way, it can be harmful and dangerous.

Train yourself well at usual times to perform effectively at stress. Some tips to beat negative stress at work. 

1 . Don’t panic that the situation at stress. Think that it is a normal one. Tell yourself that there’s nothing to worry. 
2 . Talk with your colleague about the stress and make a joke out of it. Fun is the best de-stresser.
3 . Take two minutes to get out of the work station, it may be the rest-room where you can wash your face or it can be outside the room where you get new air.
4 . Do not smoke. People think that smoking de-stresses, but science says, it adds up to the stress. Instead of smoking, you can think of cold water.
5 . If you feel that one particular aspect of the workstation is adding up to the stress, try getting rid of it. It may be that pending file which requires attention later. Keep it out of sight.6 . Clean or organize your desk. This has proved to be very effective, because when you organize your desk, you indirectly telling your mind to organize it’s thoughts. That will reduce the workload to half.
7 . Play music. But only if you are comfortable. The music should not become a noise to you and it should not leave you stressed more. If you are a person who thinks that music is soothing, play soft ones.
8 . Art therapy can be a great way to beat stress. By art, I don’t mean you to draw great paintings or do pottery etc., (If you have those talents and if you can bring out something in two mins, you can). You can just scribble on the paper and make a shape out of it. This has proved to be therapeutic.
9 . Split the stressing work into fragments. Take one by one.

These may sound ordinary, but have given extra ordinary results to many people. Stress is necessary. You just need to use it in a very constructive way. Exploit stress and you will be the most productive person at work.

Believe in yourself: Nothing can be more fruitful than this. Self-belief is a must before you define your thoughts. Believe that the entire universe is waiting to help you, to achieve your desired and deserving goal. Believe that you are the maker of your destiny.

 Understand Yourself: Take a stock of what you do on a daily basis. Think of the thought processes that flow in your mind during work, interactions etc. If you’re sitting alone, do not take those thoughts for granted. In fact, they are the most important thoughts to capture. Understand the person in you.

Assess and Accept Yourself: Assessment of the thoughts compared to set standards, is essential. Standards are those which you think is ideal, i.e., your super-ego state. After assessment, do not get discouraged that you have flaws, for there will be NO man in a usual world who will find zero-flaws in his mental system. Accept the flaws.

Plan and Practice Yourself: Planning involves, inner-questioning. The expectations that you have from yourself. Continuous reinforcement of positive thoughts is a must here.
 
Sustain Yourself: Always be conscious of the thoughts. Sustain the practice.

As we cruised to Victory !!!!

As the Men in Blue cruised to Victory on Saturday night, the whole Nation chanted in Union, India! India!
A Victory dedicated to the Master Blaster who dedicated his life to Indian Cricket.
As Dhoni, hit a sixer, the whole country hit a Rampage.
The cheers and frenzy of a maddened crowd who celebrated victory through Saturday night and Sunday.
A Proud moment for Indians through the World.
Our Boys in Blue made us Proud.
A Night we shall never Forget (2nd April 2011).
Magical moments of life which will remain etched on Our Memories.
The country was united irrespective of Caste, Class or Religion.
Rich and Poor came together cheering on the Streets.
Emotional moments in the life of Every Indian.
Our Boys gave their life as they seem to say, Give respect, you are talking to World Champions.
The country faced so much in the past.
We were the victims of heinous terror attacks.

Get your hands dirty!!!


If you want to be successful, work hard, dirty your hands - and go beyond your specific roles.
....Sometimes, the biggest lessons in life come from very unlikely sources.

1. Getting a driving license does not make you a driver. “But it was only after several months of driving a car that he/she actually learn to drive, and became a real driver.” A license is only a permit – and not a stamp of authority. An MBA does not make you a manager. It is only after you spend several more years learning on the job that you truly qualify to call yourself a manager. Many young people confuse getting a degree as signifying the end of their learning. Wrong. It's just the beginning. A Bachelors degree or a Masters degree – the license – simply marks you out as someone qualified to learn from real life experiences. It doesn't make you an expert.

2. The real world is very different from a classroom. For example “I learnt to drive a car. But my first job required me to drive a little tempo. The steering wheel was different, and so were the gears. I thought I knew how to drive – but I couldn’t even get the tempo started.” The world outside the classroom is a very different place. That's as true for engineers and MBAs and accountants as it is for drivers. Get ready to get surprised.

 3. Get your hands dirty. “I spent nights working as a cleaner. That's when I learnt all about the insides of an automobile. Knowing what's under the bonnet has made me a better driver today.” The brightest marketing professionals in the country will tell you that they learnt their biggest lessons in the days they spent slogging in small towns selling soaps or colas. There's no other way. If you want to be successful, work hard, dirty your hands – and go beyond your specific role.

 4. Initially, what you learn is more important than what you earn. “In my first job, the pay was bad but the boss was good. He gave me opportunities to learn, make mistakes. I banged his tempo quite a bit. While the dents were quickly repaired, the lessons I learnt remain firmly etched in my mind.” In your first job – don’t worry about pay packet or the size of the organization. Get a good boss. A good mentor. That’s priceless.

 5. Don't worry about which car you drive. Focus on being a good driver. “I always wanted to drive the best cars – but rather than complain about having to drive a tempo or a school van or the city transport bus, I focused on driving well. I told myself that if I do that, the good cars will come. And they did.” Now that's a great lesson. It's not about the company. It’s about you. Do the best with what you have, wherever you are. We could all benefit by staying focused on doing a great job – rather than worrying about the next job, or the next promotion. Do a good job. Success and happiness will follow. Inevitably.

Rules of Motivation 

#1. Set a major goal, but follow a path. The path has mini goals that go in many directions. When you learn to succeed at mini goals, you will be motivated to challenge grand goals. 

#2. Finish what you start. A half finished project is of no use to anyone. Quitting is a habit. Develop the habit of finishing self-motivated projects. 

#3. Socialize with others of similar interest. Mutual support is motivating. We will develop the attitudes of our five best friends. If they are losers, we will be a loser. If they are winners, we will be a winner. To be a cowboy we must associate with cowboys.

#4. Learn how to learn.  Dependency on others for knowledge supports the habit of procrastination. Man has the ability to learn without instructors. In fact, when we learn the art of self-education we will find, if not create, opportunity to find success beyond our wildest dreams. 

#5. Harmonize natural talent with interest that motivates. Natural talent creates motivation, motivation creates persistence and persistence gets the job done.

#6. Increase knowledge of subjects that inspires. The more we know about a subject, the more we want to learn about it. A self-propelled upward spiral develops.

#7. Take risk. Failure and bouncing back are elements of motivation. Failure is a learning tool. No one has ever succeeded at anything worthwhile without a string of failures.

Sometimes the biggest lessons in life come from the smallest folks around us!!!

All of us tend to look up to big people for lessons on how to get better. We are keen to learn the secrets of their success. But we forget that sometimes the biggest lessons in life come from the smallest folks around us. Now that’s a good lesson to remember!

Take ants for instance. Would you believe those small creatures can teach us how to live a better life? Jim Rohn - the great motivational guru – developed what he called the ‘Ants Philosophy’. He identified four key lessons from the behaviour of ants that can help us lead better lives. Jim Rohn is no more – but his messages continue to inspire. Here then, are the four lessons from Rohn’s ‘Ants Philosophy’.

1. Ants never quit. Have you noticed how ants always look for a way around an obstacle? Put your finger in an ant’s path and it will try and go around it, or over it. It will keep looking for a way out. It won’t just stand there and stare. It won’t give up and go back.

We should all learn to be like that. There will always be obstacles in our lives. The challenge is to keep trying, keep looking for alternative routes to get to our goals. Winston Churchill probably paraphrased the ant’s mindset when he offered this priceless advice: “Never give up. Never, never give up!”

2. Ants think winter all summer. Remember the old story of the ant and the grasshopper? In the middle of summer, the ant was busy gathering food for the winter ahead – while the grasshopper was out having a good time. Ants know that summer - the good times – won’t last forever. Winters will come. That’s a good lesson to remember. When the going is good, don’t be so arrogant as to believe that a crisis or a setback cannot happen to you. Be good to other people. Save for a rainy day. Look ahead. And remember, good times may not last, but good people do.

3. Ants think summer all winter. As they suffer through the unbearable cold of the winter, ants keep reminding themselves that it won’t last forever, and that summer will soon be here. And with the first rays of the summer sun, the ants come out – ready to work, ready to play. When we are down and seemingly out, when we go through what looks like a never-ending crisis, it’s good to remind ourselves that this too shall pass. Good times will come. It’s important to retain a positive attitude, an attitude that says things will get better. As the old saying goes, tough times don’t last. Tough people do.

4. Ants do all they possibly can. How much food does an ant gather in summer? All that it possibly can! Now that’s a great work ethic to have. Do all you can! One ant doesn’t worry about how much food another ant is collecting. It does not sit back and wonder why it should have to work so hard. Nor does it complain about the poor pay! Ants just do their bit. They gather all the food they can. Success and happiness are usually the result of giving 100% - doing all you possibly can. If you look around you, you’ll find that successful people are those who just do all they possibly can.

Follow the four simple steps of Jim Rohn’s ‘Ant Philosophy’ – and you’ll see the difference. 
Don’t quit. Look ahead. Stay positive. And do all you can!!!

And there’s just one more lesson to learn from ants. Did you know that an ant can carry objects up to 20 times their own weight? Maybe we are like that too. We can carry burdens on our shoulders and manage workloads that are far, far heavier than we’d imagine. Next time something’s bothering you and weighing you down, and you feel you just can’t carry on, don’t fret. 
Think of the little ant. And remember, you too can carry a lot more on your shoulders!

Never in my wildest imagination that a chainsaw, which i thought is only used in cutting trees can also be used to form figures which are very pleasing the eyes. Likewise sculptures made of sand, ice, stone, clay and more are amazing. Such works I believe can only be achieved by an unparalleled skill of a truly gifted man. Enjoy!!!

Accurately defining the research problem, tracing the history of prior work, reviewing previous findings, gathering data , indexing , evaluating, analysing, and interpreting the data gathered, applying statistical methods, working in the field, and meeting experts for guidance are some of the basic elements in research processes.

We had drawn a picture of the research scenario and its broad features in these columns earlier. When we get down to brass tacks, we would learn that research is a fascinating area of work that takes many students to a prosperous career. A research scholar with the right temperament and commitment to his work, can scale great heights and gain even social acceptance and recognition. There are plenty of opportunities for research in our country as well as abroad. There is a general lack of awareness of the abundance of opportunities in this field that offers unique job satisfaction .
Let us however candidly admit that research is not a cup of tea anyone would relish . You should be endowed with certain qualities if you should enjoy research, irrespective of your discipline of work. Certain qualities can be developed, but some others are inherent. If you are not the right type of person for research, you may happily seek other pastures that are close to your heart, where you can perform well. No one can be an adept in all activities, whether mental or physical . Let us summarise the attributes of a good research student and those to be attained by the time you have established evidence of your useful research work.

Before we plunge into the world of research, we should learn the vital aspects of research methodology. Accurately defining the research problem, tracing the history of prior work, reviewing previous findings, gathering data, indexing, evaluating, analyzing , and interpreting the data gathered, applying statistical methods , working in the field, and meeting experts for guidance are some of the basic elements in research processes.
Extensive literature survey covering print and digital media would be necessary. Quality books would offer comprehensive coverage of the subject. But the information provided even in the latest books may sometimes be slightly dated. No researcher can afford to work on obsolete data. Articles in quality journals providing in-depth knowledge on selected aspects, as well as data from patent databases are of prime importance. It is interesting that our literature review may often reshape our research problem or alter its focus, and modify the research methodology we have in mind for solving our problem. In literature study, a useful strategy is to go from the woods to the trees. First have a general study of the broad area and gradually narrow down the study to our zone of focus. The range of the literature we select for review should be limited to suit the available time. It is not practical to exhaust the entire literature even on a specific topic. The frontiers of knowledge are widening endlessly .

Developing a working hypothesis is an important step in defining with precision the goal and the track. A sample design can be built on the working hypothesis. The mechanics of sampling is so vast that it can hardly be covered in a newspaper article . It has to be studied in detail before a sample is identified for selection. The research design has to be decided before we proceed further. The design should be reliable and sufficiently flexible so as to accommodate contingencies. Perhaps, there would be unexpected developments that might call for re-design. But a systematically constructed initial plan should be there to guide us through the right path. Course correction is possible only if we are in a defined course. Adoption of the appropriate tools, methods , and techniques for work are also significant exercises to be carried out with care. It is advisable that we adopt the best possible styles right from the beginning, as otherwise we may have to retrace the steps and go all over again through some other track, resulting in delays. Detailed documentation of the derived data and periodic review / analysis are key factors in successful research in the shortest possible duration. When we work for a Ph.D., we may have to get the approval of the supervisor or a related committee of experts at each stage of our progress.

Gathering useful data may have to be done through diverse methods. Our own direct observation though most reliable has its own limitation. We will necessarily have to depend on other sources. Interviews, graded questionnaires, case study, contact through phone or e-mail are some of the possibilities .
